Sea Kings Freshmen Bested by Capo Valley Christian in Pitchers’ Duel

March 12, 2025

In a game that saw the two teams combine for only seven hits, the Sea Kings Freshmen lost a 1-0 decision to the Capo Valley Christian Eagles.

William Gould (‘27) mounted the bump for the Sea Kings to start the game and promptly struck out the first two Eagles. However, a free pass was followed by an RBI double off the bat of the Eagles’ cleanup hitter, and Capo Valley Christian was out to a 1-0 lead. Fans of offense would be forgiven if they chose to leave the ballpark at that point.

The scoreboard displayed only goose eggs after the top of the first inning. The Eagles mustered only two hits from that point, while the Sea Kings only managed four.

Gould pitched four innings on the day, surrendering two hits, while striking out five. Kyle Womack (‘27) took over from there and pitched three innings of one-hit ball, striking out two Eagles and issuing no walks.

The Sea Kings had scoring opportunities in the fourth, fifth and six innings. In each of those frames, the Sea Kings had runners in scoring position and only one out, but couldn’t cash in. Claire O’Kelly (‘28) and Luke Kittleson (‘28) doubled in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively, in an effort to spark a rally, but both were stranded on the base paths.

Colt Fyke (‘28) was held hitless on the day, but did have two critical walks in the fourth and six innings. These walks extended Fyke’s season-long on-base streak to six games.

The Sea Kings Freshmen (3-3) next battle the San Clemente Tritons at home on March 14.
