Sea Kings Freshmen Erupt for Ten Runs in the Fifth Inning as They Cruise to a 12-3 Victory

February 25, 2025

The Sea Kings Freshmen were locked into a tight one-run game versus the Segerstrom Jaguars until the bottom of the fifth inning. And then the dam broke. The Sea Kings sent fifteen batters to the plate in the fifth frame, as they put double-digit runs on the scoreboard.

In the fifth inning, Segerstrom’s pitchers seemingly lost the ability to throw strikes, walking six Sea Kings. Those walks, coupled with five singles by the Sea Kings, resulted in a ten-run inning that put the game out of reach.

The game started as a back-and-forth, one-run contest until the bottom of the fifth inning. The Jaguars jumped out 1-0 in the third inning and the Sea Kings then rallied to take the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Segerstrom nudged ahead 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning before the Sea Kings onslaught in the bottom of the frame.

Remarkably, the Sea Kings scored twelve runs on only seven hits. Silas Gartner (‘28) and Brody Majit (‘28) lead the way with two hits apiece. Gartner also lead the team with three runs scored, while JJ Haley (‘28) tallied two. Majit provided four RBI’s for the Sea Kings batting out of the five hole.

A trio of Sea Kings pitchers held the Jaguars in check, allowing only two hits and one earned run on the day, while striking out thirteen. Gartner started on the mound and was relieved by Majit, who proceeded to strike out five of the first six batters he faced. Haley wrapped up the game for the Sea Kings, allowing zero runs over the final two innings.

The Sea Kings Freshmen next face Dana Hills at home on February 28, 2025.
