The Sea Kings Freshmen moved to 3-0 on the season after hanging on to defeat Dana Hills in a low-scoring contest.
With runs at a premium, the Sea Kings pitchers exerted their dominance, holding the Dolphins without an earned run, while recording ten strikeouts and only walking one batter. Brody Majit (‘28) continued his season-long, torrid strikeout pace, this time striking out four batters during his two innings pitched. Colt Fyke (‘28) started and soaked up 4 2/3 innings on the bump, allowing only two hits and striking out six without issuing a walk. Fyke was dialed in all game, evidenced by his strike percentage of 69%.
The Sea Kings got the scoring started in the bottom of the third inning with a two-out rally that was greatly aided by Dana Hills’ pitchers. After a single by Luca DiNapoli (‘28), the Dana Hills hurlers proceeded to hit Silas Gartner (‘28) and then walk the next two batters to force in a run, with Fyke picking up the RBI.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Sea Kings tacked on two more runs without ever hitting the ball out of the infield. Two more walks by Dana Hills’ pitchers coupled with a bunt single by Luke Kittleson (‘28) and a series of groundouts enabled the Sea Kings to take a 3-0 lead by the end of the frame.
The Dolphins tried to mount a late comeback when they scored two unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning, but it turned out to be too little, too late as the Sea Kings sealed the 3-2 victory.
Tait Weissman (‘28) lead the Sea Kings offense, going two for two plus a walk, and adding a stolen base.
The Sea Kings Freshman hit the road on Tuesday, March 4 to face the San Juan Hills Stallions.
