Late Comeback Falls Short as Sea Kings Junior Varsity Loses to Fullerton

March 8, 2025

The Sea Kings Junior Varsity lost 9-6 to the Fullerton Indians on Saturday morning in a game of bizarro baseball. Fullerton managed to score nine runs on only four hits. The story of the game was Fullerton capitalizing on the Sea Kings’ sloppy defense and free passes. The Sea Kings yielded six walks and committed six errors on the way to surrendering only one earned run out of the nine that the Indians scored.

The Sea Kings started the game perfectly fine as leadoff hitter Max Brengel (‘27) singled and was driven in by Cason Yarnell’s (‘27) RBI double. However, the Indians struck back with a run in the bottom of the first to tie the score at one.

Fullerton scored three runs in the second inning, four in the fourth inning and one in the fifth inning to take an 9-1 lead.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Sea Kings started to mount a comeback when they tallied two runs by stringing together two walks and a pair of singles.

The Sea Kings pulled up to the Last Chance Saloon in the top of the seventh inning and things looked promising when the inning started with a single followed by a hit by pitch, another single and an error by the Indians. Following a fielder’s choice, Kyle Womack (‘27) hit a clutch RBI double down the left field line and suddenly, the Sea Kings had the tying run at the plate with only one out. The Indians were able to quash the rally and end the game on a pair of infield pop-ups.

Brengel was once again stellar out of the leadoff spot going two for four and scoring two runs. This effort stretched his on-base streak to five games, a streak matched by Yarnell.

Jacob Olson (‘27) was able to manufacture two runs despite being held hitless. He reached base twice on a walk and an error, and used his speed to steal two bases.

Prescott Nyman (‘27) extended his season-long RBI streak to five games when he singled in the sixth inning.

Cash Burns’ (‘27) hitting streak reached four games when he singled as part of the Sea Kings’ seventh inning rally.

The Sea Kings Junior Varsity is scheduled to play the Eagles of Capo Valley Christian on Wednesday, March 12.
