The Sea Kings Junior Varsity lost 13-2 to the Huntington Beach Oilers in a game that early on looked like it might be a close contest.
With the score knotted a 0-0, the Sea Kings went to bat in the bottom of the second inning looking to avenge Tuesday’s defeat to the Oilers. Cason Yarnell (‘27) and Maxwell Morton (‘27) started the inning with back-to-back singles and were then sacrificed to second and third bases. However, the Sea Kings could not deliver the necessary timely hit and the inning ended with no runs scored after a groundout and a strikeout. And then, the bottom fell out for the Sea Kings.
Huntington Beach scored ten runs on nine hits in the top of the third inning and chased three Sea Kings pitchers in the process.
In the bottom of the third, the Sea Kings once again got two singles to lead off the inning, this time by Alex Wellmerling (‘27) and Cash Burns (‘27). Both runners ended up scoring thanks to a pair of Oilers’ errors.
Huntington Beach posted three more runs in the fourth inning to make the final score 13-2.
The Sea Kings Junior Varsity and Oilers will finish their season series on Friday, April 4, at Huntington Beach.
