Sea Kings Varsity Ends Regular Season With Dominant Victory

Sea Kings Varsity Ends Regular Season With Dominant Victory

The Sea Kings Varsity scored a season-high eleven runs on their way to an 11-0 shutout of the La Quinta Blackhawks. The Blackhawks had no answers for Sea Kings starter Stevie Jones (‘26), who was simply dominant. Jones fanned eleven of the nineteen batters he faced while pitching five and two-thirds innings and allowing two hits.

The Sea Kings got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning when Brady Gadol (‘25) led off the game with a double and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

After a scoreless second inning, the Sea Kings pushed across four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Jones got a one-out single and was joined on base by Ganon Overfelt (‘25), who walked, and JJ Haley (‘28), who singled. William Chiechi (‘25) then cleared the bases with a double to left field and the Sea Kings were up 4-0. The Blackhawks gifted a fifth run to the Sea Kings when Chiechi scored on a wild pitch.

The Sea Kings broke the game wide open in the bottom of the fifth inning by posting five runs on the scoreboard. Chiechi was again in the middle of the action as he started the rally with a one-out single. After a walk to Marc Solomon (‘25), Brody Dahlquist (‘25) singled to score Chiechi. Another walk was followed by a Gadol single that plated Solomon. A bases-loaded walk to Jones forced in the third run of the inning and two more Sea Kings scored when the Blackhawks’ third baseman misplayed Overfelt’s ground ball that would have ended the inning.

The bottom of the sixth inning saw the Sea Kings score their final run when Ben Stone (‘26) singled home Solomon, who had doubled.

Gadol, who ended the regular season on a nine game hitting streak, was once again a stat sheet stuffer. Against the Blackhawks, Gadol was three for five with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI.

Third baseman Chiechi ended the regular season in scorching fashion as well with an eight game on-base streak and a five game run scoring streak. The Blackhawks got the full Chiechi experience, as he went two for three with a double, while scoring two runs and driving in three.

Jones helped his own pitching effort by going one for three at the plate, and adding a walk, a run and an RBI.

Haley’s single in the third inning extended his hitting streak to four games and his on-base streak to five games.

The Sea Kings Varsity now awaits word on a possible at-large bid to the CIF-Southern Section Championships.

Sea Kings Junior Varsity Ends Season with Loss to Blackhawks

Sea Kings Junior Varsity Ends Season with Loss to Blackhawks

The Sea Kings Junior Varsity finished their 2025 season by dropping a 12-4 decision to the La Quinta Blackhawks. The Blackhawks jumped out to a 9-0 lead after the first four innings and never looked back.

The Sea Kings pushed across single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth inning, the Blackhawks helped the Sea Kings’ cause by loading the bases on a walk and two hit by pitches to start the inning. The Sea Kings managed to score on a Cason Yarnall (‘27) sacrifice fly, but the rally ended there.

The Blackhawks tried to help again in the fifth inning by hitting the leadoff batter, Sam Healy (‘27). Healy advanced to third base when the next batter, Tyler Beiswenger (‘26) doubled to right field. Porter Fyke (‘26) then singled to bring in Healy.

The Sea Kings scored their final runs of the game and season in the bottom of the seventh inning. Crosby Eddy (‘27) singled and Fyke doubled to put runners on second and third bases. With two outs, Prescott Nyman (‘27) lined a 3-2 pitch into right field to bring home Eddy and Fyke. The Sea Kings then loaded the bases when the Blackhawks committed an error and then misplayed a dropped third strike, but the rally ended with a ground out to shortstop, making the final score 12-4, La Quinta.

The Sea Kings got solid work out of the bullpen from Kyle Womack (‘27) and Healy. Womack pitched two innings and allowed one earned run on three hits, while striking out two. Healy toed the slab for three innings, surrendering one earned run on four hits and notching four strikeouts.

From his leadoff perch in the lineup, Fyke was a force at the plate for the Sea Kings. The left fielder was two for three with a double and a walk, scoring two runs and driving in another.

Nyman reached base twice for the Sea Kings with a single and a hit by pitch. In addition to stealing a base, Nyman added two more RBI to his team-leading total for the season.

The Sea Kings Junior Varsity wrapped up their season with a final record of 1-24.

Sea Kings Freshmen Waste Gould Gem, Lose by One Run

Sea Kings Freshmen Waste Gould Gem, Lose by One Run

The Sea Kings Freshmen dropped a 6-5 verdict to the Capistrano Valley Christian Eagles on Friday despite trebling the Eagles in the hit department, 9-3. The Sea Kings were dominate in two phases of the game, pitching and hitting, but the defense proved to be their downfall as the Sea Kings committed five errors, which led to five unearned runs.

William Gould (‘27) baffled the Eagles hitters all day, pitching a complete game and allowing only three hits, while striking out three and walking none.

The Eagles deployed a small-ball strategy to scored their only earned run of the game. A single and a stolen base was followed by back-to-back sacrifice bunts allowing the Eagles to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.

The Sea Kings showed that turnabout is fair play when they used small-ball to respond immediately in the top of the third inning and tie the game at one apiece. Claire O’Kelly (‘28) started the inning with a line drive single into left field and then advanced to second base on a walk. After she was moved to third base by a Danny Angeloff (‘28) sacrifice bunt, O’Kelly came in to score on a Tait Weissman (‘28) sacrifice fly.

A trio of errors by the Sea Kings in the bottom of the third inning allowed the Eagles to plate three runs and take a 4-1 lead.

A two-out rally in the top of the fifth inning saw the Sea Kings score four runs to jump ahead of the Eagles 5-4. The action started with an Angeloff line drive single to center field. Weissman and Brody Majit (‘28) followed with singles to load the bases. A four-pitch walk to JJ Haley (‘28) forced in a run and then Luke Kittleson’s (‘28) single brought in two more runs to tie the score. Luca DiNapoli (‘28) then singled to bring home Haley and the Sea Kings had their first lead of the game.

The Sea Kings defensive miscues reared their head again in the bottom of the frame when the Eagles first two batters reach on errors. With runners on second and third bases and no outs, the Eagles once again reached into their bag and pulled out a sacrifice bunt. This time, both Eagles runners were able to score on the bunt and the Capistrano Valley Christian lead was 6-5.

The Sea Kings had two base runners in both the sixth and seventh innings, but failed to score. The game and the Sea Kings season ended with a 6-5 defeat when the Eagles turned a triple play in the top of the seventh inning.

Kittleson wrapped up the season riding a thirteen game on-base streak for the Sea Kings. Against the Eagles, Kittleson was one for three with a walk, and drove in two runs.

Haley capped off a nine game hitting streak, while filling up the box score. The Sea Kings right fielder was two for three plus a walk and had a stolen base, a run scored and an RBI.

Leadoff man Weissman was the firestarter at the top of the lineup for the Sea Kings, going two for two, while adding a walk, a run, an RBI and a sacrifice fly.

In addition to his critical sacrifice bunt in the third inning, Angeloff was one for one and scored a run.

With their singles in the top of the fifth inning, Majit and DiNapoli extended their on-base streaks to four and five games, respectively.

The Sea Kings Freshmen ended their season with a final record of 6-19-1.

Sea Kings Varsity Rides Offensive Breakout and Relief Pitching to Victory

Sea Kings Varsity Rides Offensive Breakout and Relief Pitching to Victory

In a game that was closer than the final score would indicate, the Sea Kings Varsity defeated the Capistrano Valley Christian Eagles 10-5 on Wednesday. The lead changed hands four times in the first three frames before the Sea Kings grabbed the lead for good in the top of the third inning. Ultimately, a Sea Kings offense that tallied ten hits and drew eight walks, coupled with shutdown pitching out of the bullpen was too much for the Eagles to overcome.

The Sea Kings jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Brady Gadol (‘25) opened the game with a line drive double to right field and was then driven in by Princeton-commit Vincent Menard’s (‘25) single.

A two-run homer by the Eagles in the bottom of the first inning put Capistrano Valley Christian up by one run.

The Sea Kings answered immediately in the top of the second inning when they opened the frame with two singles and a walk, and then scored two runs on an RBI single by Stevie Jones (‘26) and a ground out by Ganon Overfelt (‘25).

Again, the Eagles struck back and took the lead in the bottom of the second inning when back-to-back one-out doubles plated three runs to make the score 5-3. The Sea Kings made a call to the bullpen and summoned Noah Bertrand (‘25) who was able to induce two ground ball outs to choke off the Eagles’ rally.

The scoring pace continued as the Sea Kings reclaimed the lead in the top of the third inning by scoring four runs. The inning started with William Chiechi (‘25) being hit by a pitch. Chiechi advanced to second base on a wild pitch and to third base on Charlie Kaster’s single to right field. When Kaster stole second base, an error on the Eagles’ shortstop allowed Chiechi to score. After Jack Phillips (‘28) walked, Kaster and Phillips moved up a base on a wild pitch, and then scored on Gadol’s single to put the Sea Kings up by a run. Another wild pitch put Gadol on third base and he scored on Menard’s RBI single to center field.

The bullpens for both teams took control of the game following the top of the third inning. There was minimal action on the base paths for either team until the Sea Kings came to bat in the top of the seventh inning holding a two run lead.

The Eagles started the top of the seventh inning by walking the bases loaded for the Sea Kings. A single by Phillips and a sacrifice fly by Gadol brought home two runs. In an echo of the third inning, the Sea Kings scored their final run of the game when Phillips stole second base and Kaster was able to score from third base when the Eagles’ shortstop made an error.

A leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh inning turned out to be harmless, as Sea Kings reliever Stonehill College-commit Marcello Anelli retired the next three Eagles to end the game.

Bertrand and Anelli were excellent out of the bullpen for the Sea Kings. After squelching the Eagles’ second inning rally, Bertrand went on to pitch two innings of one hit ball, allowing zero runs. Anelli followed Bertrand on the bump and closed the game with three and two-thirds innings of work in which he allowed no runs on two hits, while striking out seven and walking none.

Gadol led the offense for the Sea Kings, going two for three with a double. The Sea Kings center fielder added a walk, a sacrifice fly, two runs and three RBI for the game, as he extended his hitting streak to eight games.

Hitting behind Gadol in the lineup, Menard went two for five with two RBI and a stolen base.

Chiechi sacrificed his body for the team, as he was hit by pitches twice. The senior also drew a walk and scored two runs despite being held hitless. His on-base streak now stands at seven games and he has scored a run in four straight games.

Kaster reached based a team-high four times as he coupled a pair of walks with two singles. The Sea Kings backstop made good use of his time on the base paths, as he stole two bases and scored three runs.

Second sacker Phillips also stole two bases for the Sea Kings as part of his two for three day at the plate. He added a walk, two runs and an RBI to his stat sheet.

Left fielder JJ Haley (‘28) singled in the first inning to extend his on-base streak to four games.

The Sea Kings Varsity closes the regular season on Saturday, May 3 when they host the La Quinta Blackhawks.

Sea Kings Freshmen Rally Late to Beat Tritons

The Sea Kings Freshmen got punched in the mouth in the top of the first inning, but methodically battled back before taking the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning and scoring a 4-3 victory over the Pacifica Christian Tritons.

The Tritons jumped out to a quick 2-0 first inning lead before Sea Kings starter Colt Fyke (‘28) settled in.

The Sea Kings cut the lead in half when they scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Brody Majit (‘28) led off the inning with a single and advanced to second base on a balk. Luca DiNapoli’s (‘28) attempt at a sacrifice bunt turned into a single and the Sea Kings had runners on the corners. Luke Kittleson’s (‘28) fly out to center field was enough to score the tagging Majit and the score was 2-1.

Pacifica Christian added a run in the top of the sixth inning to push the lead back out to two runs.

The Tritons did themselves no favors in the bottom of the sixth inning and opened the door for a comeback rally when they started the inning by walking Tait Weissman (‘28), hitting Majit and walking DiNapoli. The Sea Kings, facing a two-run deficit, had the bases loaded with no outs. Weissman scored on Kittleson’s ground ball to the Tritons’ shortstop to pull the Sea Kings within one run. The Sea Kings next batter, Jackson Lawrence (‘28) grounded into a double play, but Majit came home with the tying run on the play. Two batters later, DiNapoli scored to put the Sea Kings ahead for the first time.

The game ended as a 4-3 Sea Kings victory when the Tritons failed to score in the seventh inning.

The Sea Kings got excellent pitching on the day from starter Fyke and reliever Nick DeSousa (‘27). Fyke pitched five and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out seven. DeSousa came in to close the game, pitching the final one and one-third innings and allowing no runs on two hits.

Majit reached base twice for the Sea Kings with a single and a hit by pitch, while scoring two runs.

DiNapoli, who extended his on-base streak to four games, reached base three times and scored a run. DiNapoli ended his day with a single and two walks.

Kittleson led the Sea Kings with two RBI. His on-base streak has now reached twelve games.

Lawrence stretched his on-base streak to nine game thanks to being hit by a pitch in the fourth inning.

Sea Kings Varsity Wins as Jones Stifles Chargers

Sea Kings Varsity Wins as Jones Stifles Chargers

The Sea Kings Varsity got a vintage pitching performance from Stevie Jones (‘26) on Friday, as they won their final conference game of the year, scoring a 5-1 victory over the Edison Chargers. Jones pitched a complete game, allowing one run on six hits, while striking out five and walking none.

Edison played small ball in the top of the second inning to establish a 1-0 lead. A leadoff single and a sacrifice bunt put a runner in scoring position for the Chargers. After a balk advanced the runner to third base, a squeeze bunt resulted in a run when the Chargers runner beat the Sea Kings throw to the plate.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Sea Kings had runners on the corners with two outs, but an out on the base paths ended the potential rally with a goose egg still showing on the scoreboard for the Sea Kings.

Both teams went quietly in the third inning and then the Sea Kings made their move in the bottom of the fourth inning. Brady Gadol (‘25) led off the inning with a single and advanced to third base on a single by Jones. JJ Haley (‘28) then hit a double to center field, which drove in both Gadol and Jones to put the Sea Kings up 2-1. The rally continued as William Chiechi (‘25) singled to right field and advanced to second base as the Chargers threw the ball back into the infield. Marc Solomon (‘25) came to bat with Haley on third base and Chiechi on second base, and cashed in both runs with his single to center field. Jackson McDonald (‘25) drove in the inning’s fifth run with a double to right field that plated pinch runner Will Chavez (‘26).

After the fourth inning, the pitchers for both teams were dominant. Neither team managed more than a single baserunner in the fifth, six and seventh innings, and the Sea Kings cemented a 5-1 win.

Gadol stayed red hot, extending his hitting streak to seven games. On the day, he was two for three with a run scored. The Sea Kings all-time base stealer also added to his career total with two more thefts against the Chargers.

Haley’s double to put the Sea Kings up for good was part of a one for three day, in which he scored a run and drove in two.

Starter Jones helped himself with his stick work, as he went two for three and scored a run.

With his two for three day, Solomon has now reached base in four straight contests. He added a run and two RBI next to his name in the scorebook on Friday.

The Sea Kings second extra base hit on the day belonged to McDonald, whose double was part of a one for three day that included an RBI.

Chiechi’s single early in the third inning rally stretched his on-base streak to six games.

The Sea Kings Varsity travels to face the Capistrano Valley Christian Eagles on Wednesday, April 30.

Sea Kings Junior Varsity Ends Season with Loss to Blackhawks

Sea Kings Junior Varsity Loses Final Conference Game

In a game that seemed to echo Wednesday’s matchup, on Friday, the Sea Kings Junior Varsity lost to the Edison Chargers by an identical final score of 7-2. As in the previous game, the Sea Kings dug themselves an early hole when they were victimized by errant infield defense.

For the second straight game, the Chargers were able to establish a first inning lead, largely due to a pair of Sea Kings errors. Edison took advantage of the extra outs to emerge with a 3-0 lead heading into the second inning.

The Chargers returned the favor in the top of the second inning when they allowed an unearned run themselves, which shrunk their lead to 3-1. Cason Yarnall (‘27) led off the inning for the Sea Kings with a double and scored three batters later when the Chargers second baseman misplayed a ground ball.

The Sea Kings pulled to within a run at 3-2 in the top of the fourth inning, again courtesy of an unearned run. Sam Healy (‘27) drew a two-out walk and then scored when Brady Zenz’ (’26) single was misplayed by Edison’s right fielder.

The bottom of the fourth inning turned out to be a pivot point in the game, as the Chargers pushed their lead out to 6-2. A walk, a pair of singles, a Sea Kings error and a triple did the damage before a pitching change by the Sea Kings finally choked off the rally.

A promising start to the fifth inning turned sour for the Sea Kings after a first and third setup with no outs was erased when both baserunners were cut down at home plate on the same play.

The Chargers added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning when they loaded the bases with a walk, a single and a hit by pitch, and then scored a run on a wild pitch.

The Sea Kings went down one, two, three in the sixth and seventh innings, and the Chargers took home a 7-2 victory.

Jacob Olson (‘27) and Zenz both reached base twice for the Sea Kings, with Olson earning a pair of walks and Zenz earning a walk to accompany his single. Olson also added a stolen base to his personal stat sheet.

Prescott Nyman (‘27), who extended his on-base streak to four games, led the Sea Kings with two hits in his three at bats, while Yarnall ended his day one for three with a double and a run scored.

Brooks Johnson (‘27) had a nice day pitching out of the bullpen for Sea Kings. It was he who was called upon to squelch the Chargers’ fourth inning rally, and he went on to pitch two and two-thirds innings in which he allowed one run on three hits, while striking out five and only walking one.

On Wednesday, April 30, the Sea Kings Junior Varsity hits the road to face the Capo Valley Christian Eagles.

Sea Kings Freshmen Waste Gould Gem, Lose by One Run

Late Rally Falls Just Short for Sea Kings Freshmen

The Sea Kings Freshmen lost to the Edison Chargers 4-3 on Friday. The game saw the Chargers mount a comeback from an early deficit only to almost be overtaken by the Sea Kings as the game entered the final stretch. As it was, the Chargers held on at the wire to come away with a victory.

The Sea Kings jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. With one out, Nick DeSousa (‘27) doubled to left field and then Claire O’Kelly (‘28) walked to put two ducks on the pond. Brody Majit (‘28) doubled to drive in both runs and give the Sea Kings an early lead.

Edison started their comeback in the bottom of the third inning when a single cashed in the Dr. Seuss-friendly walk-balk combination that had put a Chargers runner on second base.

The Chargers took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth inning with a rally that, again, started with a free pass. After the leadoff walk, Edison strung together a double and two singles to plate three runs and make the score 3-2, in their favor.

The score was 4-3 after the Chargers tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

In the top of the sixth inning, Edison played with fire by walking the bases loaded with only one out. A sacrifice fly by Luca DiNapoli (‘28) drove in one run for the Sea Kings, but that was all they could muster before the inning ended with the Sea Kings staring at a 4-3 deficit entering the seventh inning.

Jackson Lawrence (‘28) tried to ignite a game-tying rally in the seventh inning with his one-out single, but first base was as far as he would travel before the game ended as a 4-3 Chargers victory.

DeSousa was on base three times for the Sea Kings via the unlikely combination of a double, a walk and a hit by pitch. Two of those three trips on the base paths resulted in runs scored by the Sea Kings right fielder.

Majit also had a double and reached base three times, as he walked twice in addition to his extra-base hit. He drove in two of the Sea Kings four runs. After starting the game at shortstop, Majit relieved starter William Gould (‘27) on the mound and turned in a stellar performance. Majit entered the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with Chargers runners on second and third bases and one out, and two runs having already been scored during the frame. Majit induced two ground balls and the Sea Kings were out of the inning with no further damage done. For the game, Majit pitched two and two-thirds innings and allowed one run on two hits, while striking out two Chargers.

DiNapoli led the Sea Kings with two hits as part of his two for three day that included an RBI.

Lawrence’s seventh inning single extended his on-base streak to eight games.

Although held hitless, Luke Kittleson (‘28) drew two walks and, in doing so, stretched his on-base streak to eleven games.

The Sea Kings Freshmen will host the Pacifica Christian Tritons on Wednesday, April 30.

Déjà Vu All Over Again for Sea Kings Varsity

Déjà Vu All Over Again for Sea Kings Varsity

Second verse, same as the first. On Wednesday, the Edison Chargers downed the Sea Kings Varsity 3-1 in a near repeat of Tuesday’s game. The Chargers used a late three-run home run to overcome an early deficit and send the Sea Kings to defeat.

The Sea Kings took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. William Chiechi (‘25) led off the inning with a single and was joined on base by Charlie Kaster (‘26) when the Chargers’ second baseman booted Kaster’s ground ball. Designated hitter Marc Solomon (‘25) then singled to right field and the Sea Kings had the bases loaded with nobody out. Edison called upon the pitcher’s best friend, a double play, to flip the inning. One run was in, but the Sea Kings now only had a runner at third base and two outs. A fly out then ended the inning with the Sea Kings in front by one run.

After the top of the second inning, the game settled into an old fashioned pitcher’s duel with neither team threatening until it was the Chargers’ turn to bat in the bottom of the sixth inning. Just as in game one of the series, the game pivoted on one swing of the bat by Edison’s first baseman, who blasted a three-run home run to right field, after a single and a walk had put two runners on base.

Edison retired the Sea Kings one, two, three in the seventh inning to secure a 3-1 victory.

Center fielder Brady Gadol (‘25) extended his hitting streak to six games with a first inning triple, but the Sea Kings couldn’t cash him in.

The Sea Kings’ other extra base hit came off the bat of JJ Haley (‘28) who doubled, as part of a one for two day at the plate.

Third baseman Chiechi scored the lone Sea Kings’ run and was one for three on the day to stretch his on-base streak to five games.

Sea Kings’ starter Will Chavez (‘26) pitched a complete game for the third straight start. Chavez pitched six innings and gave up three runs on four hits, while striking out five and walking two.

The Sea Kings Varsity and Edison Chargers wrap up their season series on Friday, April 25.
