The Sea Kings Varsity kicked off a three-game series with the Huntington Beach Oilers on Tuesday. Huntington Beach established a three-run lead in the top of the third inning and hung on to defeat the Sea Kings 4-2.
The game was scoreless through two innings. In the top of the third inning, the Oilers opened the frame with a back-to-back singles and then took advantage of two Sea Kings’ errors to put three runs on the scoreboard.
The Sea Kings battled back in the bottom of the fourth inning. The inning started with the Sea Kings scoring a run as a result of three consecutive singles by Stevie Jones (‘26), Charlie Kaster (‘26) and Mark Solomon (‘25). After a Huntington Beach pitching change, Jackson McDonald (‘25) drew a walk and the Sea Kings had the bases loaded with only one out. Kaster was able to score on a passed ball, but the Sea Kings rally was snuffed out by back-to-back strikeouts, and the inning ended with the score 3-2.
Huntington Beach tacked on a run in the top of the fifth inning when a leadoff walk was followed by a double.
Stonehill College-commit Marcello Anelli (‘25) started on the mound for the Sea Kings and certainly pitched well enough to win. He spread six hits and two walks over six innings, while allowing two earned runs and striking out nine Oilers. Noah Bertrand (‘25) pitched a hitless and scoreless seventh inning, and struck out one Oiler.
Brady Gadol (‘25) lead the Sea Kings with two hits out of his leadoff spot.
The Sea Kings Varsity and Huntington Beach will be back in action on Wednesday, April 2.
