January 26, 2025

The Sea Kings Varsity wrapped up their appearance at the preseason Desert Cities Baseball Tournament on Sunday with a 6-2 loss to La Quinta.

Mark Solomon (‘25) got the scoring started for the Sea Kings in the top of the first inning with a single to drive in Vincent Menard (‘25). The Sea Kings then expanded their lead to 2-0 in the second inning on a run-scoring single by Max Brengal (‘27).

La Quinta battled back to tie the score at two in the bottom of the third inning, and then took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth, as the Sea Kings couldn’t overcome several defensive miscues. La Quinta tacked on a final run in the fifth inning to make the final score 6-2.

The Sea Kings batters combined seven hits with four walks to create plenty of traffic on the base paths, but could not deliver the timely RBI hit, stranding eight runners on base over the last three innings

Sea Kings hurlers Evan Hesse (‘25), Noah Bertrand (‘25) and Charlie Kaster (‘26) combined to allow two earned runs over six innings, while striking out seven La Quinta batters.
