April 22, 2025

The Sea Kings Freshmen fell to the Edison Chargers 12-1 on Tuesday thanks to a big third inning in which the Chargers scored nine runs.

The Chargers were able to establish a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when a pair of Sea Kings’ errors extended the inning.

After a scoreless second inning, the Sea Kings halved the Chargers’ lead in the top of the third inning. Claire O’Kelly (‘28) led off the inning with a walk and, one out later, was joined on base by William Gould (‘27), who earned a walk of his own. Following another out, Luca DiNapoli’s (‘28) ground ball to second base resulted in an error, which allowed O’Kelly to score.

The Chargers dropped the hammer in the third inning. The first five Chargers batters reached base safely and Edison would ultimately send thirteen batters to the plate on the way to scoring nine runs in the frame.

Edison added one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the final score 12-1.

Nick DeSousa (‘27) was a bright spot on offense for the Sea Kings going one for two and extending his hitting streak to four games.

The Sea Kings’ lone run was scored by O’Kelly, who reached base twice with two walks and, in doing so, stretched her on-base streak to four games.

Tait Weissman (‘28) was one for three at the plate with a stolen base and has now reached base in six straight games.

With his hit by pitch in the fourth inning, Jackson Lawrence (‘28) extended his on-base streak to six games, as well.

Luke Kittleson (‘28) drew a walk during the game to push his on-base streak out to nine games.

Gould started on the mound for the Sea Kings and absorbed the loss after hurling two innings and surrendering one earned run on two hits.

Max Nguyen closed the game for the Sea Kings, pitching a scoreless sixth inning and not allowing a hit.

The Sea Kings Freshmen host the Edison Chargers for game two of their three game series on Wednesday, April 23.
