Sea Kings Junior Varsity Loses to Segerstrom in Extra Innings

February 25, 2025

In a home game that lasted a full nine innings, the Sea Kings Junior Varsity fell to the Segerstrom Jaguars 9-4.

The Sea Kings erased an early Segerstrom lead when they scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Sea Kings rally was aided by a walk, two hit batsmen and a dropped third strike by Segerstrom. The big blow in the inning came on a two-out, bases-loaded double to the left center gap by Prescott Nyman (‘27) to drive in two runs.

After the Jaguars tied the score in the fifth inning on two unearned runs, the Sea Kings had chances to score in both the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings, but left five men stranded on base.

Both teams held serve in the eighth inning and Segerstrom ultimately broke the game open when the Jaguars posted five runs in the top of the ninth.

Segerstrom pitchers battled control issues all day, hitting four Sea Kings batters a total of five times, and issuing six walks, including two to Cason Yarnell (‘27).

Sam Healy (‘27) and Cash Burns (‘27) each had two hits for the Sea Kings, which included a double by Burns. Nyman led the Sea Kings with two RBI’s.

Brooks Johnson (‘27) was particularly feisty at the plate for the Sea Kings, finishing the game one for three with a sacrifice fly, while delivering a base hit to right field after a tense 10-pitch battle with Segerstrom’s pitcher in the sixth inning.

Nyman started on the mound for the Sea Kings and pitched three innings, allowing three hits and one earned run, while striking out two and walking none. Johnson then entered in relief and was excellent over four innings, surrendering three hits and no earned runs, while striking out five Jaguars and walking none.

The next game for the Sea Kings Junior Varsity is Friday, February 28, at home versus Dana Point.
