Sea Kings Freshmen Bested by Capo Valley Christian in Pitchers’ Duel

Sea Kings Freshmen Bested by Capo Valley Christian in Pitchers’ Duel

In a game that saw the two teams combine for only seven hits, the Sea Kings Freshmen lost a 1-0 decision to the Capo Valley Christian Eagles.

William Gould (‘27) mounted the bump for the Sea Kings to start the game and promptly struck out the first two Eagles. However, a free pass was followed by an RBI double off the bat of the Eagles’ cleanup hitter, and Capo Valley Christian was out to a 1-0 lead. Fans of offense would be forgiven if they chose to leave the ballpark at that point.

The scoreboard displayed only goose eggs after the top of the first inning. The Eagles mustered only two hits from that point, while the Sea Kings only managed four.

Gould pitched four innings on the day, surrendering two hits, while striking out five. Kyle Womack (‘27) took over from there and pitched three innings of one-hit ball, striking out two Eagles and issuing no walks.

The Sea Kings had scoring opportunities in the fourth, fifth and six innings. In each of those frames, the Sea Kings had runners in scoring position and only one out, but couldn’t cash in. Claire O’Kelly (‘28) and Luke Kittleson (‘28) doubled in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively, in an effort to spark a rally, but both were stranded on the base paths.

Colt Fyke (‘28) was held hitless on the day, but did have two critical walks in the fourth and six innings. These walks extended Fyke’s season-long on-base streak to six games.

The Sea Kings Freshmen (3-3) next battle the San Clemente Tritons at home on March 14.

Sea Kings Varsity Comes Up One Run Short Against Fullerton

Sea Kings Varsity Comes Up One Run Short Against Fullerton

The Sea Kings Varsity twice found themselves in a four-run hole versus the Fullerton Indians on Saturday. While they were able to dig themselves out the first time, they came up just short in their second attempt, and dropped their first game of the season, 8-7. The Sea Kings record on the season now stands at 5-1.

Fullerton got off the bus ready to swing it. In the first inning, the first seven Indians’ batters tallied five singles and a walk on their way to scoring four runs to start the game.

In the third inning, the Indians generously offered up a few gifts and the Sea Kings gladly accepted. In and among a pair of stolen bases and a sacrifice fly by Jackson McDonald (‘25), the Sea Kings received two walks and reached on an error by the Fullerton right fielder. The result was two runs in the inning and the Indians’ lead cut in half.

The comeback was completed in the fourth inning when the Sea Kings scored two more runs, as they strung together three singles and again took advantage of an Indians’ error.

Sea Kings starter Isaiah Vasquez (‘25) settled down after the first inning and was cruising along until the top of the sixth, when a one-out solo home run by Fullerton opened the floodgates. After a pitching change, the Indians would go on to score three more runs in the frame, and again, the Sea Kings found themselves facing a four-run deficit.

In the bottom of the frame, the Sea Kings went back to work. Back-to-back leadoff singles were followed by a three-run home run blast off the bat of designated hitter Marc Solomon (‘25). The Sea Kings ultimately had the tying runner on third base with only one out, but couldn’t deliver the clutch hit to complete their second four-run comeback of the game, coming up one run short.

Throughout the game, the Sea Kings got huge production from the bottom of their lineup. Third baseman William Chiechi (‘25) was two for three and scored two runs. Solomon was also two for three with two runs and tacked on three RBI’s. In the process, Solomon extended his hitting streak to five games. Catcher Charlie Kaster (‘26) was two for two with a walk, and two stolen bases.

First baseman, Princeton-commit Vincent Menard (’25) stayed on his season-long torrid pace with two doubles, which pressed his multi-hit game streak to four games and his overall hitting streak to five games.

Leadoff man Brady Gadol (‘25) scored a run and in doing so, stretched his run-scoring streak to five games. Gadol, Chiechi and Ganon Overfelt (‘25) have all reach based safely in every game this season.

The Sea Kings Varsity is set to square off against the Capo Valley Christian Eagles on Tuesday, March 11.

Late Comeback Falls Short as Sea Kings Junior Varsity Loses to Fullerton

Late Comeback Falls Short as Sea Kings Junior Varsity Loses to Fullerton

The Sea Kings Junior Varsity lost 9-6 to the Fullerton Indians on Saturday morning in a game of bizarro baseball. Fullerton managed to score nine runs on only four hits. The story of the game was Fullerton capitalizing on the Sea Kings’ sloppy defense and free passes. The Sea Kings yielded six walks and committed six errors on the way to surrendering only one earned run out of the nine that the Indians scored.

The Sea Kings started the game perfectly fine as leadoff hitter Max Brengel (‘27) singled and was driven in by Cason Yarnell’s (‘27) RBI double. However, the Indians struck back with a run in the bottom of the first to tie the score at one.

Fullerton scored three runs in the second inning, four in the fourth inning and one in the fifth inning to take an 9-1 lead.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Sea Kings started to mount a comeback when they tallied two runs by stringing together two walks and a pair of singles.

The Sea Kings pulled up to the Last Chance Saloon in the top of the seventh inning and things looked promising when the inning started with a single followed by a hit by pitch, another single and an error by the Indians. Following a fielder’s choice, Kyle Womack (‘27) hit a clutch RBI double down the left field line and suddenly, the Sea Kings had the tying run at the plate with only one out. The Indians were able to quash the rally and end the game on a pair of infield pop-ups.

Brengel was once again stellar out of the leadoff spot going two for four and scoring two runs. This effort stretched his on-base streak to five games, a streak matched by Yarnell.

Jacob Olson (‘27) was able to manufacture two runs despite being held hitless. He reached base twice on a walk and an error, and used his speed to steal two bases.

Prescott Nyman (‘27) extended his season-long RBI streak to five games when he singled in the sixth inning.

Cash Burns’ (‘27) hitting streak reached four games when he singled as part of the Sea Kings’ seventh inning rally.

The Sea Kings Junior Varsity is scheduled to play the Eagles of Capo Valley Christian on Wednesday, March 12.

Sea Kings Freshmen Bested by Capo Valley Christian in Pitchers’ Duel

Sea Kings Freshmen Beaten by the Fullerton Indians

The Sea Kings Freshmen suffered their second loss of the season when they fell to the Fullerton Indians 14-2 on Saturday. The Indians took full advantage of the Sea Kings generosity, as the Sea Kings issued eight walks, hit four batters and committed five errors.

The game was tight through three innings with Fullerton holding a 2-0 advantage.

The fourth inning started innocently enough with a Fullerton batter reaching on an error, followed by a ground out and a strikeout. After another error, the Indians took advantage of the bonus outs, and tallied six runs on three walks, three base hits and a home run.

The Sea Kings tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the frame when Jackson Lawrence (‘28) drove in a pair of runs following singles by Colt Fyke (‘28) and JJ Haley (‘28).

Fullerton ended any thoughts of a comeback when they scored two runs in the fifth inning and four more in the six.

The bright spot for the Sea Kings was Haley’s stick work. He finished the day going three for three, including a double, and scored a run.

Colt Fyke was able to extend his season-long on-base streak to five games with his single in the fourth inning.

The Sea Kings Freshmen are scheduled to face off with the Capo Valley Christian Eagles at home on Tuesday, March 11.

Undefeated Sea Kings Varsity Shuts Out Tesoro

Undefeated Sea Kings Varsity Shuts Out Tesoro

The Sea Kings Varsity cruised to an 8-0 victory over the Tesoro Titans to improve to 5-0 on the season. Victory number five was basically a copy and paste job, as the Sea Kings, once again, enjoyed dominant pitching and excellent run production, especially from the top of their lineup.

Leadoff man Brady Gadol (‘25) started the game for the Sea Kings with a single and promptly stole second base. With that steal, Gadol became the Sea Kings’ all-time career leader in stolen bases. One batter later, Princeton-commit Vincent Menard’s (‘25) RBI double plated Gadol.

The Sea Kings offense could have taken the rest of the day off from there, as starter Stevie Jones (‘26) thoroughly shut down the Titans line up. Jones pitched six innings of three-hit ball, while striking out thirteen and walking only one. The junior now stands at 3-0 on the season and boasts a 1.17 ERA and a WHIP of 0.78.

When it was time for the Sea Kings to bat again, the wheels simply fell off the wagon for the Titans. In the second inning, Tesoro’s pitchers walked two Sea Kings, hit another three and threw a wild pitch. The Titans also committed an error and allowed the Sea Kings to steal three bases. Couple all that with RBI singles by Gadol, Jackson McDonald (‘25) and Jones, and the Sea Kings were able to hang five runs on the scoreboard during the frame.

Menard hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, his second of the year, and Marc Solomon (‘25) scored on a sacrifice fly by Gadol in the fifth inning to close out the scoring for the game.

Gadol proved to once again be the fire starter operating out of his leadoff perch. In addition to his aforementioned sacrifice fly, he was two for three, which extended his season-long hitting streak to five games. The senior center fielder drove in three runs and scored two. He has now scored a run in four straight games.

Menard flexed his way to a double and home run and, yet, he has been so dominant on the season that this two for four day actually lowered his batting average, which now stands at .529. The first baseman now has a four-game multi-hit streak, in addition to a four-game RBI streak.

Senior designated hitter Solomon is also riding a four-game hitting streak, as he went one for two, with a double, and was hit by pitch versus the Titans. He, along with Gadol, lead the team with two runs scored.

Third sacker William Chiechi (‘25) reached base three times and scored a run without having to exercise his arms. He drew a walk and was hit by a pitch during the fateful second inning, and again drew a walk later in the game. These free passes allowed Chiechi to extend his on-base streak to five games.

Although he saw his hitting streak end, shortstop Ganon Overfelt (‘25) was able to keep his on-base streak alive when he drew a walk and was hit by a pitch.

McDonald also has a five-game on-base streak and contributed two RBI’s against the Titans.

The Sea Kings Varsity has a short turnaround, as they host the Indians of Fullerton Saturday morning, March 8.

Sea Kings Varsity Moves to 4-0 with Shutout of San Juan Hills

Sea Kings Varsity Moves to 4-0 with Shutout of San Juan Hills

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Once again, the Sea Kings Varsity pitchers proved to be unhittable, as the San Juan Hills Stallions found out Tuesday evening. In their home opener, the Sea Kings shut out the Stallions 6-0 to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Starter Stonehill College-commit Marcello Anelli (‘25) improved to 2-0 on the season and has started the campaign by stringing together twelve innings without allowing a run. Junior Will Chavez (‘26) pitched the final inning for the Sea Kings, striking out two.

The Sea Kings wasted no time in getting the scoring started when Princeton-commit Vincent Menard (‘25) singled home Brady Gadol (‘25) in the bottom of the first inning. In the second inning, the Sea Kings tacked on another run as they strung together four singles.

Charlie Kaster (‘26) scored on Jackson McDonald’s (‘25) RBI ground out, as the Sea Kings played add-on in the fourth inning.

The Sea Kings wrapped up the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. With runners on second and third base, the Stallions apparently failed to read the scouting report, and intentionally walked McDonald to load the bases and bring Menard, who is hitting .538 on the season, to the plate. Menard promptly hit an 0-2 pitch back up the middle to drive in two runs, and all but put the game out of reach. The Sea Kings added a final run when William Chiechi (‘25) hit a sacrifice fly to left field to drive in McDonald.

Kaster made sure to get his cardio in for the day, as he went three for three, with a stolen base and three runs scored.

Gadol, Stevie Jones (‘26) and Menard all tallied two hits with Menard collecting three RBI’s on the day.

Gadol and Ganon Overfelt (‘25) both extended their season-long hit streaks to four games, while Chiechi and McDonald each saw their on-base streaks reach four games.

Sea Kings baseball history was made in the bottom of the fourth inning when Gadol swiped his second base of the day, and in doing so, tied John Doering as the Sea Kings all-time career leader in stolen bases.

The Sea Kings Varsity will look to stay undefeated when they face the Tesoro Titans on Friday, March 7.

Late Comeback Falls Short as Sea Kings Junior Varsity Loses to Fullerton

Sea Kings Junior Varsity Loses First Road Game of the Season

The San Juan Hills Stallions pounded out thirteen hits, including seven extra-base hits, on their way to an 8-1 victory over the Sea Kings Junior Varsity.

The Sea Kings were limited to four hits on the day, but did get production out of the top of their lineup. Leadoff man Max Brengel (‘27) was one for three with a double and a walk, while extending his season-long on-base streak to four games. Brengel scored the Sea Kings only run when he was driven in by Prescott Nyman (‘27), who produced an RBI for the fourth straight game. Number three hitter Cash Burns (‘27) accounted for three total bases, as he went two for three including a double.

Starter Brooks Johnson (‘27) took the loss for the Sea Kings after a two-out error opened the floodgates to four unearned Stallions’ runs in the first inning. On the season, Johnson has pitched to an excellent 4:1 strikeout to walk ratio.

Nick DeSouza (‘27) finished the game on the mound for the Sea Kings and came out of the bullpen firing strikes. He allowed no runs over one and two-thirds innings pitched, while compiling a 74% strike percentage.

The Sea Kings Junior Varsity will return to the diamond on Friday, March 7 seeking their first win of the season as they face the Tesoro Titans.

Sea Kings Freshmen Bested by Capo Valley Christian in Pitchers’ Duel

Sea Kings Freshmen Fall for First Time, Lose 8-2

The Sea Kings Freshmen suffered their first loss of the season when they were defeated by the San Juan Hills Stallions, 8-2. There were several bright spots for the Sea Kings, and they even out-hit the Stallions seven to five, but ultimately it wasn’t enough to overcome some uncharacteristic wildness on the part of the Sea Kings pitchers and timely hitting by the Stallions.

The Sea Kings jumped out in front in the first inning on a single by Luca DiNapoli (‘28), who scored on a ground out by Brody Majit (‘28). But that lead quickly evaporated in the second inning when San Juan Hills hung five runs on the scoreboard.

In the fourth inning, the Stallions tacked on an unearned run aided by a pair of Sea Kings fielding miscues.

The Sea Kings tried to mount a comeback in the fourth inning when Luke Kittleson (‘28) doubled in Colt Fyke (‘28), but the game was ultimately put out of reach by the Stallions in the sixth inning when a leadoff walk was followed by a two-run homer.

Kittleson displayed his two-way excellence when he extended his four-game on-base streak with his RBI double and coupled that with two excellent innings on the mound in relief. In the seventh inning, he pitched himself into and then out of trouble, when he issued a leadoff walk followed by a double, but then proceeded to strike out the side. For the day, he finished his two innings of mound work by allowing no runs on one hit and striking out five Stallions.

Fyke powered his way to a two for two day with a double plus a walk and a run scored. He extended his season-long on-base streak to four games.

As usual, DiNapoli ignited the Sea Kings offense out of his leadoff perch going two for three and extending his on-base streak to four games.

Not to be left out, Tait Weissman (‘28) extended his season-long hit streak to four games with a single in his final at-bat of the day.

The Sea Kings Freshmen are next in action on Friday, March 7 versus the Titans of Tesoro.

Sea Kings Varsity Beats Dana Hills 5-3, Remains Undefeated

Sea Kings Varsity Beats Dana Hills 5-3, Remains Undefeated

The Sea Kings Varsity dug themselves out of an early three-run deficit and ultimately secured a 5-3 victory over the Dana Hills Dolphins on Friday. The Sea Kings Varsity is now 3-0 on the young season.

Stevie Jones (‘26) pitched a complete game for the Sea Kings while scattering four hits and two walks over the seven innings to record an outstanding WHIP of 0.86. Jones also struck out six Dolphins.

The Sea Kings started their comeback in the top of the third inning with a two-out rally. Jackson McDonald (‘25) singled and advanced to second base on an error by the Dolphins’ right fielder. Princeton-commit Vincent Menard (‘25) then lined an 0-2 pitch into left field to score McDonald.

Dana Hills’ starting pitcher ran out of gas in the sixth inning, as the Sea Kings rallied to score four runs on five hits. The big blows were back-to-back doubles by William Chiechi (‘25) and Ganon Overfelt (‘25) that allowed the Sea Kings to score the tying and go-ahead runs. The Sea Kings then tacked on an insurance run when Mark Solomon (‘25) singled to score Overfelt.

First baseman Menard was three for three on the day and is now hitting .556 on the season. Designated hitter Solomon finished up his day going two for three at the plate.

The Sea Kings Varsity host their first home game of the year when they face the San Juan Hills Stallions on Tuesday, March 4.

Late Comeback Falls Short as Sea Kings Junior Varsity Loses to Fullerton

Sea Kings Junior Varsity Defeated by Dana Hills

The Dana Hills Dolphins soundly defeated the Sea Kings Junior Varsity 19-1 in a game that got out of hand early. The Dolphins jumped the Sea Kings for seven runs, four earned, in the first three innings and the rout was on from there, with Dana Hills putting up a crooked number in five of the game’s seven innings.

Johnny Allstaff did the bulk of the mound work for the Sea Kings as they trotted out six different pitchers to cover the game’s final five innings.

Max Brengal (‘27) lead the Sea Kings offense going two for three, with a double, and scoring the team’s lone run when he was driven in by Prescott Nyman (‘27) in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Sea Kings Junior Varsity will go back to work on Tuesday, March 4 when they travel to San Juan Hills to face the Stallions.
